Greetings to the students and families that will be involved in exceeding the 8th Grade standards this year. I am excited to start this New Year with you all as partners for success.
My name is Mr. Crall, I was born and raised in Chicago. I attended Catholic school when I was a student and taught my first 2-years at a Catholic Elementary school. I participated in my church community as an altar server and as a member of the children’s choir for my parish school church. I was also a member of The Boy Scouts of America where I learned valuable life lessons that would shape my character. Through my experiences I value the importance of team work and making positive contributions to my community and beyond. It is through life lessons I learned as an active member in my community that lead me to a career in teaching. As I transitioned my passion from volunteering as a mentor and teacher while working in private sector jobs. I have found that my career change has been more rewarding than I could ever imagine. Since joining the Josephine Locke community I have been welcomed with open arms and collaborative support from the parents and many families. I am excited for this opportunity to enrich the students in their understandings and builds them up. I will never lower my high expectations for our students both academically or socially. Treating each other fairly and improving oneself is my philosophy and one I wish to spread.
My educational background is a combination of disciplines having attended such schools as University of Illinois, Louisiana State University, National Louis University as well as colleges like the City colleges of Chicago and Trinity Christian College. I currently hold middle school endorsements that allow me to teach Math, General Science, Language Arts, and Social Science. I have also completed course work at University of Illinois that will allow me to teach high school Algebra courses to our students in junior high. This will enhance our students’ ability to compete for enrollment at some of our cities most successful high schools. I am also endorsed to teach English second language learners and special education students. As you can see I enjoy learning and keep myself enrolled at local universities. It is my intention to continue enhancing my abilities so that I am may work with our students in such a way that moves them to the front of any line, opening opportunities for them to succeed. I pride myself in understanding many perspectives knowing that there is always a different way to look at things while accomplishing goals for success.
My feeling about Josephine Locke Elementary School is that with its strong parent support, marvelous extracurricular activities, and dedicated staff made up of passionate educators’, former students, and leaders in our community. Students who attend Locke should know that this school is miles ahead when it comes to social emotional learning, academically challenging course work, and safety. I stand behind Locke School as offering students a superior educational product.
Our students will have the benefit of grade level and beyond curriculum that encourages mastery of academic skills. Homework will be assigned with an emphasis on completion as practice for understanding. Students in my class will enjoy opportunities to ask questions for understanding as well as partner work that encourages academic dialogue. This year the students will be guided in becoming independent learners while working in small groups as a way to celebrate success and teamwork. As our students grow this year keep them motivated positively by supporting them in challenging themselves to learn new material and raise their own expectations.
This will be the best year yet!
Sincerely,
Patrick Crall
